For five years, I worked with hundreds of clients across Upwork and Fiverr. CRMs, funnels, email sequences, automations. The work was good. The clients kept coming back. The model didn’t scale.

01 — The Pattern

What I Started Noticing

What I started noticing, somewhere around client 200, was the same pattern over and over. Every time I worked with a fractional CMO or a small agency, the same thing was happening on their side.

Smart strategy, ambitious 90-day plans, beautiful decks. Then a panicked Friday Slack message every single time.

02 — The Real Problem

The Build Phase Was the Problem

The strategy was never the problem. The build phase was. And every smart strategist I worked with was either burning out trying to build it themselves or burning money on freelancers who flaked.

So I stopped pitching myself as a freelancer and started building a team. Not an agency in the bloated sense. A small, deliberate, invisible team that exists to plug into other people’s engagements and ship the part that usually dies.

We don’t have a sales team. We don’t have a marketing department. We have a founder, a project manager, and a focused operations team. The math says we can take on a fixed number of agency partners at a time. So we cap intake and focus on delivery.

If we’re not the right fit, we say so. If a project is going to be late, we say so before the deadline, not after. If a client is asking for something dumb, we tell our partner, who tells the client. The relationship is built on the same operating principle our partners run their agencies on: don’t lie, don’t surprise, don’t disappear.

I started building things for other people before I knew how to run a business. A landing page here, a CRM setup there, stitched across freelance marketplaces and late-night Slack threads. It worked. It scaled badly.

What I slowly figured out is that most agencies and fractional CMOs don’t need another freelancer. They need a team that shows up on time, ships clean work, and disappears behind their brand when it matters.

So I built that. I read too many business books, I write occasionally on LinkedIn, and I think about the unglamorous middle of agency operations more than is probably healthy.

We hire slowly. Everyone on the team has shipped enough to know what good looks like. Nobody on the team is ‘still figuring it out.’
